Bland AI alternative

Bland is a good platform with a genuinely clear price. The question is not whether it works. It is whether you want to own an agent you have to build, tune and keep working.

Bland AI is a developer platform that bills per minute: $0.14 on the free Start plan, or $0.12 with a $299 monthly platform fee. You build and maintain the agent. AI Placers builds and runs it for you and bills per booked job, so an unproductive call costs nothing.

What the price actually covers

Bland is unusually honest about what the rate covers. The LLM, speech-to-text and text-to-speech are in the per-minute number with no token charges, which is not true of every platform on this list. Telephony sits outside it, on your own Twilio or theirs at pass-through cost, and transfers to a human are billed separately unless you bring your own carrier.

When Bland AI is the right answer

  • You have engineers and want to own the agent, the prompt and the call logic.
  • You are building voice into your own product rather than answering your own phone.
  • Your call volume is high and predictable enough that per-minute economics beat per-outcome.
  • You need on-prem or VPC deployment, which Bland offers on Enterprise and we do not.

When we are

  • Nobody on your team is going to maintain a prompt, and you want the phone answered on Monday.
  • You would rather pay for booked jobs than for talk time. A nine-minute call that books nothing costs us, not you.
  • Your volume is spiky. A freeze or a campaign puts more calls on the line than a 10-call concurrency limit absorbs.
  • You want someone accountable for the outcome, not for the uptime of an API.

Questions people ask

Is AI Placers cheaper than Bland AI?

It depends entirely on how many of your calls turn into work. Per-minute billing is cheaper if your calls are short and most of them convert. Per-booked-job is cheaper if a lot of calls are price-shoppers, wrong numbers and people who ring three suppliers. Run your own numbers before believing either of us.

Can I just build this on Bland myself?

Yes, and plenty of people should. If you have a developer who will own it, Bland's documentation is good and the pricing is clear. We are the answer when nobody is going to own it.

What does Bland actually charge for a transfer?

$0.05 per transfer minute on Start and $0.04 on Build, waived if you bring your own Twilio. Worth modelling if you expect to pass a lot of calls to a person, because transfers are a cost line rather than a rounding error.

Does Bland have compliance certifications?

Their pricing page states SOC 2 Type I and Type II, HIPAA eligibility with a signed BAA, GDPR and PCI DSS, with documentation under NDA on Enterprise. If that is what you need, verify it with them directly rather than taking it from a comparison page, including this one.
